As you might imagine, collective action is most powerful when everyone participates. From the food you eat to making your voice heard and voting, your choices matter. Here are just a few of the ways your everyday actions can have a positive impact on the health of our ocean and marine mammals:
Share the shore responsibly. Give resting seals and sea lions space by maintaining a safe distance of at least 50 feet and keeping pets on a leash. Use the zoom on your camera rather than approaching for a selfie. Call 1-800-39-WHALE to report sick or injured animals.
Use your voice and vote with the environment in mind. Discuss the importance of conservation and marine protected areas with friends, neighbors and local leadership, and research candidates’ stances on the topic before heading to the polls.
Eat more plants by going meatless at least one day a week. Reducing meat intake lowers your carbon footprint. When purchasing seafood, choose sustainably caught or farmed fish, and avoid buying pet food that contains fish products.
Reduce, reuse, THEN recycle. Reducing what you buy and making sure you reuse what you already have goes a long way in helping our environment. Recycling is an important last step.
